Custom Admin Branding User Guide

Custom Admin Branding lets you add your own branding to the WordPress login screen and admin toolbar.

What You Can Change

  • The logo shown on the WordPress login page.
  • The small logo shown in the WordPress admin toolbar.
  • The background colour behind the WordPress login form.

Before You Start

You will need an Administrator account for your WordPress website.

For best results, prepare your logo files before uploading them:

  • Use a clear PNG, JPG, or SVG logo.
  • Use a wide version of your logo for the login screen.
  • Use a compact version of your logo for the admin toolbar.
  • Make sure the logo has good contrast against the background colour you choose.

Installing The Plugin

  1. Log in to your WordPress admin area.
  2. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
  3. Click Upload Plugin.
  4. Choose the Custom Admin Branding ZIP file.
  5. Click Install Now.
  6. Once installed, click Activate Plugin.

Adding Your Branding

  1. In WordPress, go to Settings > Custom Admin Branding.
  2. Open the Images & Colors tab.
  3. Next to Login Logo, click Select Image.
  4. Choose an existing image from the Media Library, or upload a new one.
  5. Click Use this image.
  6. Repeat the same steps for Admin Toolbar Logo if you want to replace the WordPress logo in the top admin bar.
  7. Use Login Background Color to choose the background colour for the login screen.
  8. Click Save Changes.

Your changes will be applied straight away. To check the login screen, open your site login page in a private or incognito browser window.

Removing A Logo

  1. Go to Settings > Custom Admin Branding.
  2. Open the Images & Colors tab.
  3. Click Remove next to the logo you want to clear.
  4. Click Save Changes.

License And Updates

The plugin uses a license key to receive automatic updates.

  1. Go to Settings > Custom Admin Branding.
  2. Open the License tab.
  3. Enter the license key supplied by Smudge Hosting.
  4. Click Save Changes.
  5. Check the License Status field.

If the status shows Active, your site can receive plugin updates through the normal WordPress update screen.

Updating The Plugin

When an update is available, WordPress will show it under Dashboard > Updates or Plugins.

Before updating, it is always sensible to make sure your website has a recent backup. Then run the update in the same way you would update any other WordPress plugin.

Troubleshooting

If your logo does not appear, check that you clicked Save Changes after selecting it.

If the login logo looks too large or too small, try uploading a logo with more empty space around it, or use a wider version of the logo.

If the admin toolbar logo is hard to read, use a simpler or lighter version of your logo, as the toolbar has limited space.

If updates are not appearing, check the License tab and make sure the license status is Active.

If you are still having trouble, contact support with your website address, a brief description of the issue, and a screenshot if possible.
